The winners of the 2012 Environmental Excellence Awards were announced this week and honored at a ceremony Thursday morning.

American Lung Association Rates the Air Quality in Your County

Ramsey County earned an  F for air quality. The new American Lung Association report grades counties based on air particle pollution. Ramsey got an F for the first time, down from a B in 2009.

Hennepin and Dakota counties each earned a C. while Scott, Washington and Anoka counties all got A's for air quality.

DNR to Use Lake Elmo Park Reserve Ponds to Rear Walleye Fry

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will be using ponds in the Lake Elmo Park Reserve to rear walleye fry this year. The walleye will be used to stock lakes in the fall to make sure there are enough fish to keep up with angler demand.

The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved access to the ponds at the April 10 meeting.

Woodbury Event Creates Standards for School Recycling Efforts

Woodbury Elementary School is partnering with the city and county to host a recycling event.

Volunteers will sift through the school’s garbage and sort out materials that can be recycled, such as paper and plastic. The items will then be weighed to develop a baseline for recycling efforts at the school.

Washington County Plans Household Hazardous Waste Collections

Washington County will be collecting household hazardous waste in communities beginning April 21.

Seven weekend waste collection events have been planned:
