4 South Washington County Students Chosen for 'Girls State' Program

Four South Washington County School District students were selected to attend a week-long leadership session focused on government and good citizenship.

The program, called Girls State, is open to junior girls who demonstrate high moral character, leadership abilities, academic excellence, respectful attitudes, and an interest in American government.

Washington County Commissioners Approve New Districts

Washington County commissioners approved the new districts that will be in effect for the next 10 years based on the 2010 census data.

The districts will be:
•    District 1 – City of Dellwood, City of Forest Lake, City of Grant, City of Hugo, Precinct 1 of the City of Mahtomedi, City of Scandia, City of Marine on St. Croix, and May Township.

Bill to Raise Hunting, Fishing License Fees Stalls in Senate

A proposal to raise hunting and fishing license fees has been put on hold in the Minnesota Senate.

Republican author Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen tabled the bill after he attempted to add Senate language that includes the fee hikes to a House-passed bill without the increases. His amendment was defeated on 27-39 vote, with lawmakers in both parties split.

Washington County Board to Consider Redistricting Plan Tuesday

New county commissioner districts will be considered at today’s Washington County Board of Commissioner meeting.

The changes to the districts are required because of the population changes shown by the 2010 U.S. Census. Plans will be considered for commissioner districts and Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

DFL Picks Graves to Challenge Bachmann

The Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party has endorsed hotel magnate Jim Graves as its candidate to challenge the state's highest-profile Republican, Michele Bachmann.
